Camps at Asheville Junior Theater are a great way for kids to try acting, singing or dancing, whether in preparation for our fall show or just for some summer fun. We also have various options for kids who are interested in the technical backstage elements of performing arts. 

 

Each camp has a minimum requirement of ten kids. We reserve the right to cancel and refund you if these minimums are not met.

Camps will fill up and move to a wait list, so register your child today!

Create an account, then enroll in camps. No yearly registration fee for camps!

Payment & Refund Policy:
Payment in full is required at registration. A $100 portion of the tuition is nonrefundable. Refunds (minus the $100 deposit) are available up to one week before camp begins. After that time, no refunds will be issued.

Camp price: $355 for full-day camp 9:00-4:00pm; price increases to $375 on April 1

Kpop demon hunters! - JUne 15-19

KPOP DEMON HUNTERS! Summer Camp (ages 4-7 AND 8-16) ✨

Join us for an unforgettable week of music, magic, and high-energy fun as we dive into the world of K-pop stars who battle supernatural forces — all while learning to shine on stage like true performers!

Campers will:

  • Learn songs from the movie and bring them to life in group singing sessions

  • Recreate exciting scenes and hone your heroic acting chops

  • Build stage confidence through acting and performance exercises 

  • Learn K-Pop-inspired choreography and staging

  • Every day includes craft time creating props, scenic elements for the Friday showcase, or camp souvenirs

Both our Ages 4–7 Mini Camp and our Ages 8–16 Full-Day Camp will be held in the same facility, running at the same time. While groups will have separate classes and age-appropriate activities, campers may join together for select songs, dances, or showcase moments for an extra burst of energy and teamwork! 🎉

WITCHES of oz: for good - June 22-26 (actors and theater techies)

Follow the yellow brick road into a magical week of music, movement, and storytelling — inspired by the hit 2026 movie sequel in the beloved land of Oz! Campers step into the roles of witches, wizards, and Ozians while learning the power of friendship, courage, and finding their voice onstage. Every day builds skills in singing, character work, choreography, ensemble acting, and live performance — all leading to a Friday showcase that will leave families spellbound.

IMprov & sketch comedy - June 29 - July 3

IMPROV & SKETCH COMEDY Summer Camp (ages 8–16)

Say YES—AND to the funniest week of the summer! This fast-paced, creative camp gives young performers the tools to think on their feet, write original scenes, and turn unexpected moments into comedy gold. Through improv games, character building, and collaborative writing, students build confidence, courage, and skills they’ll use onstage and in life.

Campers will:

  • Learn improv games that build spontaneity and strong teamwork

  • Create original characters and write sketch scenes

  • Learn comedic timing, voice projection, and stage presence

  • Work as an ensemble to build short comedy pieces

  • Perform audience-ready sketches at the Friday Showcase!

Harry Potter wizarding TECH - JUly 6-10 (Actors and Theater techIES)

✨ HARRY POTTER WIZARDING TECHNICAL THEATER Summer Camp (ages 8–16) ✨
Accio imagination! Campers step into Hogwarts through acting and stage “spell work” as they explore characters, scenes, and magical movement.
With house-based activities, dramatic storytelling, and ensemble practice, students learn to wield their voice, curiosity, and confidence like trained wizards. Learn the technical elements of how to create MAGIC on the stage in this camp. No real focus on singing for this camp.

🎬 This camp will be led by our very own Potterhead, Melena Dillingham, and Cass Opal (Production Manager at the School of Stage and Screen at Western Carolina University). Melena has been teaching voice for over twenty years after performing as a professional actress; Cass has been a Production Manager and Lead Electrician at various locations including The Wortham Center for the Performing Arts and Juiliard School, The Actor’s Studion and Ars Nova in NYC. 

Campers will:

  • Rehearse scenes inspired by Harry Potter stories with expressive stage movement and magical blocking

  • Techies in this camp will learn technical elements such as lighting, sound, stage management and scenic design
  • Experiment with scenic design to create magic on the stage

  • Learn choreography for the Yule Ball and Dark Lord Funk

  • Learn a bit of real magic from a working magician!
  • Every day will also include craft time creating props, scenic elements for the Friday showcase, or camp souvenirs 
  • Techies in this camp will learn the technical elements such as lighting, sound, stage management and scenic design necessary to create magic on stage

The Greatest show! Circus Meets Stage - July 13-17

✨ THE GREATEST SHOW! Circus + Broadway Camp (ages 4–7 and 8-16) ✨
Step right up — it’s time for acrobatics, artistry, and AMAZING musical theater fun! Inspired by The Greatest Showman, this spectacular week blends circus skills with singing, dancing, storytelling, and confidence building. Campers will soar safely on aerial silks, dance to show-stopping music, juggle, tumble (safely!), and take center stage as performers under the “big top.”

Campers will:

  • Try aerial silks and Lyra safely, in age-appropriate levels

  • Learn basics of juggling, balance skills, stilt walking and partner acrobatics

  • Act out circus-themed scenes and characters

  • Sing and dance to Greatest Showman music

  • Build teamwork and confidence through performance

  • Every day includes craft time creating props, scenic elements for the Friday showcase, or camp souvenirs

Royal knights and fairy lights - July 20-24

✨ THE ROYAL KINGDOM! Summer Camp – Full Day or Half Day (ages 4–7) ✨
Let it go — and step into a world filled with brave heroes, daring adventurers, magical kingdoms, and powerful royals! ❄️👑🦁
This exciting week brings together your child’s favorite characters from Frozen and beyond — including queens, princes, wizards, beasts, snowmen, mermaids, pirates, and more. 

Campers will:

  • Learn songs and scenes inspired by royal adventures inspired by movies and Broadway hits such as Frozen, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid

  • Play imagination-filled creative games

  • Learn basic choreography and movement for storytelling

  • Do royal crafts as a souvenir, props or part of the showcase
  • Share their characters and scenes during Friday’s Showcase!

  • Full-day campers will have lunch, extra crafts and often a movie in the afternoon after the half-day kids leave

Triple Threat: Advanced Performance Intensive - July 20-24

✨ Elements of the Stage Master Class – Advanced Performance Intensive for Serious Performers (ages 12-18) ✨

✨This is deep-dive performance intensive is designed for serious young actors ready to push beyond the basics and explore the full spectrum of stagecraft. Campers will train with industry professionals in combat, improv, choreography, and vocal technique while honing their character development and scene work for richer, more nuanced performances.

Campers will:

  • Learn stage combat skills and then write a scene where conflict occurs and is resolved with stage combat
  • Learn elements of improv to think fast, stay present, and make bold choices—skills that instantly strengthen scripted scene work.
  • Learn 32 bars of choreography from various dance styles to build versatility, coordination, and confidence
  • Learn stylized vocal techniques for a wide range of genre mastery. Examples include opera, A Capella, jazz, cabaret and more
  • Dive into character development and scene study to teach performers how to analyze a script, uncover character motivations, and make intentional acting choices that bring stories to life. 

Industry professionals will lead each area of focus on a given evening.

This Master class performance intensive is for focused and dedicated performers looking to broaden their acting, singing and dancing skills and gain vital tools for more advanced and nuanced performances. 

Stay Gold: Inspired by The Outsiders - July 27-31

✨ STAY GOLD: OUTSIDERS MUSIC and DANCE Summer Camp (ages 10–18) ✨
Step into the world of greasers, dreamers, and misfits in a week inspired by the hit Broadway musical The Outsiders! Campers explore brotherhood, bravery, and belonging through powerful songs that celebrate finding your voice and standing strong together.

Each day builds skills in group choreography, rhythm, storytelling through lyrics, and confidence onstage. This is a week all about dance, connection, and discovering the heart behind each song.

🕺 This camp will be led by AMAZING choreographer and professional dancer, Jarret Ditch. 

Campers will:

🎤 Learn choreography inspired by the hit Broadway musical, The Outsiders
🕺 Learn elements of stage combat in order to more accurately portray the story of the greasers
📖 Dive into themes of friendship, courage, and identity

Queen Bees take broadway- August 3-7

✨ Queen Bees Take Broadway Summer Camp (ages 10-18) ✨

This is the week where the Plastics, Heathers, and Delta Nu legends collide — and campers claim their place center stage. Inspired by fan-favorite musicals like Mean Girls, Heathers, Legally Blonde, and more, this camp leans into the attitude, the comedy, and the power behind Broadway’s most iconic girl squads.

No shrinking violets here, just the bold and edgier side of Broadway.

This camp will be taught by the amazing Anna Wasserman, who has vast experience in the competitive dance world as well as directing and choreographing theatrical productions.

Campers will:

  • Tackle standout songs from Broadway’s fiercest female-fronted shows

  • Dive into character work—villains, queens, underdogs, and leaders

  • Learn sharp, stylized musical theater choreography with attitude

  • Explore themes like confidence, identity, friendship, and rivalry

  • Create a group culture rooted in teamwork, inclusion, and stage power

  • Perform in a Friday share-out packed with iconic moments from the week

Each day will include a significant amount of strengthening, training and choreography. But we will break the intensity up with crafts, and even a dance movie! Bring all of your dance shoes for various styles. Dance attire and hair is appreciated. Prior dance experience suggested but not required.
