Summer camps at Asheville Junior Theater are a great way for kids to try acting, singing or dancing. Whether it’s to improve their talents in preparation for our fall show, or to simply join us for some summer fun, your junior actor is welcome here!
Full payment for summer camp is due upon registration. This includes a non-refundable $100 deposit.
Each camp has a minimum requirement of ten kids. We reserve the right to cancel and refund you if these minimums are not met.

2-Day Summer Dance Workshops
Stomp 2-Day Workshop:
Get ready to make some noise at our Stomp The Floor 2-Day Intensive Workshop, inspired by the electrifying rhythms of the hit show Stomp!
Join us for two days of non-stop excitement as we dive into the world of percussion-driven dance and unleash our creativity through the power of rhythm. This workshop is perfect for dancers and percussionists alike, as well as anyone looking to explore the unique fusion of movement and music.
Throughout the intensive, participants will learn dynamic choreography inspired by Stomp, combining intricate footwork with exhilarating percussion techniques using everyday objects. From trash can lids to brooms, participants will discover the endless possibilities for creating infectious rhythms and beats.
Whether you're a seasoned performer or new to the world of percussion dance, this workshop offers a supportive and inclusive environment where you can push your boundaries and unlock your rhythmic potential. Join us as we stomp, tap, and drum our way to an unforgettable experience

Broadway Tap 2-Day Workshop:
Step into the spotlight and join us for an electrifying Broadway Tap 2-Day Intensive Workshop! Dive deep into the exhilarating world of Broadway tap dance and elevate your skills to new heights.
This intensive workshop is designed to challenge and inspire dancers of all levels. From beginners to advanced performers, participants will receive personalized instruction tailored to their individual goals and abilities.
Over the course of two immersive days, dancers will explore a variety of tap techniques, choreography styles, and performance concepts straight from the stages of Broadway. Whether you're dreaming of dazzling audiences under the bright lights or simply seeking to refine your tap skills, this workshop promises an unforgettable experience.

Location: South Asheville
- Campers will learn songs from the 2023 The Eras Tour, which paid homage to Taylor Swift’s 10-album discography with 151 shows across five continents. The Eras Tour, Swift’s most expansive tour yet, is the highest grossing tour of all time and the first to surpass $1 billion in revenue.
- This camp will focus on singing technique, the importance of projection and some of the differences in singing at a concert versus in musical theater. It will be taught by everyone’s favorite AJT Musical Director, Melena Dillingham.
- And what would a Taylor Swift experience be without dancing?!! There will be choreography!
- Kids will work on confidence and poise as they embody their inner rockstar.
- Please bring a snack, a large water bottle or two and a lunch.
A mini performance on Friday will allow kids to show their parents what they have been working on all week. This is NOT a full show, but instead a 30-minute showcase of what the children worked on all week. This showcase will begin Friday at 2:00pm. - If possible, it helps if the campers familiarize themselves with some of the songs in The Eras Tour-as if they haven’t already!!
Mary Poppins: Get Your Chim Chim Cher-ee On!
July 8-12, 9:00am-3:00pm

- Campers will learn choreography and songs based on the musical, Mary Poppins, one of the most popular Disney movies of all time which captured hearts in a whole new way on the stage! Based on the books by P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This camp will also explore songs from Mary Poppins Returns, the hit 2018 movie starring Emily Blunt.
- This camp will focus on singing, acting and dancing with scenes and songs from the musical. Because it will be directed by everyone’s beloved choreographer and dancer, Jarret Ditch, this camp is great for kids who love dance and movement or those wanting to learn more about it.
- Kids may also spend time making props.
- Please bring a snack, a large water bottle or two and a lunch.
- A mini performance on Friday will allow kids to show their parents what they have been working on all week. This is NOT a full show, but instead a 30-minute showcase of what the children worked on all week. This showcase will begin Friday at 2:00pm.

Matilda the Musical and The 2023 Hit Netflix Movie
Join us as as we dive into the enchanted world of the award-winning Matilda the Musical, which has grown dramatically in popularity this year with the new Netflix film. Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what’s right, she’s met with miraculous results.

- This camp will introduce our littlest members to movement, acting and songs from Matilda the Musical.
- Time may also be spent making props.
- Please only bring a snack (no lunch) and a large water bottle. This age group will be separate from the older kids.
- A mini performance on Friday will allow kids to show their parents what they have been working on all week, and will begin at 11:30am.
- *If possible, it helps if the campers listen to the soundtrack and watch the movie ahead of time.
Magic on the Big Stage: No Muggles Allowed Here!
AGES 8-18
July 22-26, 9:00am-3:00pm

Location: South Asheville
- Campers will explore songs and scenes from award-winning or critically acclaimed Broadway musicals which have a magical element to them. Some examples include Wicked, Tuck Everlasting, Aladdin, and more recent hits, Puffs (a Harry Potter spoof) and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
- This camp will dive into the magic of musical theater and help kids foster a love of this art form. There is a focus on scene work and improving one’s singing, and will be taught by everyone’s favorite AJT Musical Director, Melena Dillingham.
- Kids may also spend time making props.
- Please bring a snack, a large water bottle or two and a lunch.

A World of Pure Imagination: Get Down with Wonka

- Campers will explore songs, scenes and dances from Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a modern take inspired by the 2023 hit movie, Wonka, staring Timothy Chalamet.
- Because this will be directed by everyone’s beloved choreographer and dancer, Jarret Ditch, this camp is great for kids who love dance and movement or those wanting to learn more about it.
- Kids may also spend time making props.
- Please bring a snack, a large water bottle or two and a lunch.
