Volunteer with AJT

Come join Asheville Junior Theater as a volunteer and experience the joy of musical theater firsthand. Meet new people, learn new skills and get the opportunity to see our amazing performances.

If you have an interest in helping children conquer their fears or live out their dreams on the stage or you just like being around the performing arts, then this opportunity is for you. We welcome your help.

Volunteers are essential to our success at AJT; we could not bring these shows to life without the help of people in our communities of Asheville and North Carolina. We have so many opportunities of various types for people to help be of service to their community, even if donating money is not an option.

Ushering

The theater where we perform requires a large number of ushers for each show to help patrons find their seats and be of service. Please consider volunteering to be an usher; requirements include reading an instructional email, wearing the usher “uniform” of black and white and arriving an hour before the show. But the great news is that our ushers get a free ticket to experience the magic of an AJT show!

Community Service Opportunity

Are you a student looking for volunteer hours or extra credit? Asheville Junior Theater is a non-profit (501c3) and we can help you achieve your goals in exchange for your time and dedication to our shows. Please contact us to inquire about how to satisfy community service requirements.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • Become a member of our backstage crew and help move sets and props on and off the stage. Our shows would not be possible without a strong crew.
  • Are you a creative person looking for an outlet? We always need dedicated volunteers to help make costumes and props. And we could not make our “off Broadway” quality sets without thousands of man hours. We need you, whether you are an experienced costume maker or simply a glue-gun warrior.
  • Do you have knowledge in hair and makeup? We need you to help get our kids show-ready. Sitting in the hair and makeup chair as one of our volunteers brings each child’s character to life is one of our actor’s favorite experiences.
  • Do you have any knowledge of marketing, or are you willing to learn? Volunteer to hang posters around town, post about our shows on social media, help us sell ads for our Playbills. We can’t sell out our shows without a strong grassroots marketing strategy and we need people like you to help.
  • Are you new to theater but still want to contribute? Don’t worry, many of our volunteers have never done this before. We simply require responsible people who want to help kids and the arts.
